Emmitsburg, Maryland was founded in 1785, and was the site of the original Union fortification against the Confederate invasion during the Civil War in 1863. Emmitsburg is a great place to stop for lunch if you are coming to or from one of the nearby ski resorts. It is a small town with many historic buildings and a great view of the surrounding mountains.
